Aston Park Fisheries, Sheffield
I have recently been asked to be part of the Browning Humberside Team, which I obviously jumped at the chance to be part of another belting team! I had been told we were scheduled to have a team match at Aston on the Friday 4th May.
The weather was bleeding warm that day! I pulled out of the bag peg 30 Splits pond. Thought right let’s keep it simple, fish for Ide, Ide and more Ide. That idea went down swanny when the first 3 out of 4 fish were carp! When I’d got to my peg at start I’d noticed a bit of movement on the top so I’d been feeding a long line from the start, seeing if I could get them shallow - I do enjoy a bit of slapping. The chaps to my left had had some fare old lumps slapping shallow and I was forced to abandon my short line sooner than I’d of liked and go long. I alternated feeding caster and pellet - I fed pellets as I could get them more accurate when the breeze got up. On the hook I fished 6mm pellet or banded casters. Bizarrely I got mainly silvers on the pellet and carp on the caster. I ended up weighing 69lb 10oz. Beat both anglers each side of me and were 2nd in my section.
Overall an enjoyable few days fishing. Best part were winning quid off me Dad! 😊
Apologies for not doing a blog post for I while.

I’d only been to Aston a hand full of times;
First time fished a Fishing For Info meet on Butts pond,
had a few shallow(I should of caught more but I’d just got my shiny new pole
the day before and fairied about with long pole instead of fishing short for
Ide)
Second time I attend a Fishing For Info match on Butts
pond, that day I got battered – DNW.
Third time I fished Lantra pond, I got my backside kicked
by my Dad.
Fourth time I went with the Humberside guys to practice
for the Team event, I struggled that day and I knew it were gona be difficult when
Jim was walking the bank. That day i didn’t weigh however I learnt a few tips
off the guys-bonus!

The date of the team event arrived I was feeling optimistic for my first outing with the Humberside chaps. At the draw I ended up on Lillys pond. It was a painfully slow day plucking odd fish here and there. Rotating my lines to weigh 17lb of silvers. I didn’t have a carp all day. Well done to Browning Team Ossett on the win.
